GRADUATE IN ITALY?

GRADUATE IN ITALY?
You are are advised to legalise and authenticate your Accademical certificates and trascripts before leaving the Italian territory.
What is all this?
It all has to do with verifying your credentials. The people whom you are going to present your documents to in Kenya have never (in most of the cases) heard of the university where you have been studying, leave alone the name and the signature of the Chancellor of the university that has confered to you that degree. This does not however lower the value of your credentilas. But, to make them fully credible, you are advised to take them through the final stage of legalising and authenticating them at the Kenya Embassy- Rome.
The procedure
The certificates are to be presented at the Provincila legal offices. (Prefettura--ufficio legalisazzione). Here the provincial office confirms that the university where you have been studying is an insitution recognised as such by the Italian Goverment and that the signature appended on your credentials is that of the university Chancellor or the Dean authorised to sign such credentilals as you hold.
Students in Rome can find the ufficio legalizzazione at Via ostiense near Piramide (Metro Linea B)
After the step of the Prefetura, the certificates are to be presented at the Kenya Embassy Rome at Via Archimede 164. Here the Embassy will authenticate the signature and the stamps of the prefettura. This way the documents are ready for use in Kenya.
Translation
While at the Kenya Embassy, it is always prudent to apply for translation of your transcripts. Think of you presenting your degree certificate in an office in Kenya, may be looking for a job. The degree is in Italian or Latin. The officer who sees it agrees that it is an accademical certificate, but if he is not the kind that have lived in Italy like you, he will not even tell what you have studied. It is thus advisable to ask for traslations of your trascript(s) to be able to show what courses you have taken to merit the degree that you have.
ECCLESSIASTICAL CERTIFICATES
Accademical certifcates obtained from Catholic universities in italy are to be presented to the Vatican, department of Catholic Education,- Educazione Cattolica- before being taken to the prefettura and then to the Embassy.
Of late, at times the preffetura asks that after the step of the Educazione Cattolica such documents be passed at the Nunziatura Apostolica (Vatican's Embassy to Italy). It is always good to present them to avoid wasting time and energy of going to prefettura twice.
COSTS
The prefetura will normally ask for the revenue stamp of Euro 14,50c. This stamp commonly known as marchia da bollo is obtainable at the Tabbacchi shops. Stick it on on the back side of the document.
At the Kenya Embassy, authentication of each document attracts a fee of Euro 20,00. Translation of each document attracts a similar amount.
TIME REQUIRED
The prefettura has as its policy that less than five documents can be processed across the counter. More than five documents will require more than twenty four hours.
Authentications at the Kenya Embassy will require 24 hrs, though at times they could be done within twelve hours. If translations are required, then a further twenty four hours may be necessary.
FOR ANY FURTHER CLARIFICATIONS ON THIS, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH THE CONSULAR SECTION OF THE KENYA EMBASSY -- ROME.
